Ergonomic kitchen, to make your cooking effortless
What is ergonomics kitchen?
Home, the idea of household comfort is connected with both physical and emotional wellbeing. A comfortable kitchen is one that is easy to manage and smart to reduce your effort. Any good kitchen design avoids the need for excessively tiring and unnatural movements, making food preparation and cleaning as easy as possible since we cannot alter the body to fit the environment. So to make work more efficient, we have to alter the environment to fit human movement.
Ergonomics analysis the relationship between the human body and the objects we use in order to optimize movements and avoid unnatural postures in the workspace or living space. The kitchen benefits from ergonomics, being the majority time-consuming space in our home. The three main work activities are carried out in this space are food preparation, cooking, and washing. One very simple rule is therefore to unite the storage area, washing area and cooking area dividing by worktops. Ideally, the cook should not have to step away from a task area to complete the cooking process.
So, a major part of ergonomic design is analyzed considering — your height, your reach, your preferred way of doing things, and any physical limitations you may have. Further, there is often not just one user of a kitchen, but other family members too or even housemaids, all with different physical features and capabilities. The kitchen has to work well for the snack-getter as well as the main cook and for the beverage-seeker as well as the baker-in-chief
Determining the right countertop height and arranging storage for greatest efficiency is one of the biggest issue faces during designing an ergonomic kitchen. Upper cabinets are installed 18" above the countertop, a location that fits many users. But for very short persons, this means only the lowest portion of the wall cabinet can be reached, better height for most people is 15-16" above the countertop, a placement that does not interfere with the use of the countertop and puts more of the upper cabinet within easy reach, improving primary storage in every task area.
Appliance designers have come a long way with ergonomic appliance design but still, have a way to go. Dishwashers and microwaves are still the most determinedly problematic appliances, with ovens and refrigerators following in close formation
Safety
As complex as kitchens have become, the place which is more accident prone due to water and electricity containing close proximity, a decreasing rate in an accident and injuries are observed in no small part due to better design. Ergonomic design is not going to get rid of all of the many causes of accidents; it can help eliminate those caused by unnecessary hazards in the environment.
